Our service and repair process

What is the FIX ‘N’ CHIPS service process?

We know a chip, dent, or scratch in your home can be a real visual pain. As a mobile chip repair business, we want to come to you to quickly remove that eye-sore so you can get back to enjoying your home the way you want it.

Here’s a quick overview on our service process so you can know how much your repair will cost and what to expect.

  • Get in touch to let us know where you’re located and share a picture of the damaged area (ideally with something to help us gauge the size, like a coin or ruler).
  • We’ll then share this with the local franchisee chip repair expert in your area, who can use the photo to provide a quote on the repair cost.
  • If you’re happy with the quote, you can then book the next available time slot in and get your repair completed, with our local experts using the chip repair process outlined below.
  • Our mobile franchisee chip repair experts will turn up at your house at the time they indicated, with the appropriate equipment and complete your chip repair. Unlike regular trades we will be there when we say, and even take our shoes off
to come inside. It doesn’t seem like much, but it means a lot to us (you can see
why below).

That’s it! Your chip, scratch or dent is repaired so it’s no longer the first thing you see.

What is the FIX ‘N’ CHIPS chip repair process?

Each chip is a unique challenge. The variables that impact each repair differ, such as texture of the area, size and location of the chip, amount of light/direct sunlight, traffic in the area, level of visibility, colour of the surface, to name just a few.

Despite this level of complexity, we follow a tried and tested process, that is part science, part art, that helps make your chip not be the first thing you see when you enter a room.

The specific steps vary depending on the level of damage and surface we are repairing. However, there is a common framework we use to ensure a high quality repair.

The key steps are:

  • Clean and prepare the area: Firstly, we setup where we are going to work to minimise any impact on the surrounding area.
  • Prepare the chip: Then we ensure the chip or scratch is clean, free from dust and debris and in the right state for the appropriate filler to have the best chance of successfully adhering.

  • Fill the chip: We then select the best filler from our range of tried and tested solutions, taking into consideration things like the amount of traffic and durability needed. We then apply the filler spending time getting it level with the existing surface.
  • Match the colour: This is a key step, to match the colour of the existing surface, and can take longer than you might expect. We can do this from scratch to get the colour just right.
  • Paint the chip: We then use the appropriate tools with the matched colour to blend the repair into the rest of the surface. This can look simple, but if it’s not done right can have a big impact on the final result, especially when it comes to texture and finish.
  • Seal the chip: Lastly, depending on the location and surface we may complete an extra step to seal in the chip to protect the filler and paint, and also match as close as possible to the original texture – whether it’s high gloss or matte finish.
  • Clean the area: Lastly, we clean up the area and any mess, so your house is just the way you left it, and the chip or scratch is now not the first thing you see when you enter the room.

Don’t replace, repair

When we were growing up, the insurance jingles always sold the benefit of replacing new with old. We are now a bit older and wiser. Rather than go through the hassle, effort, time, and money of replacing, you might be surprised at how good repairs
can be.

So, before you look at replacing your bath, shower base, flooring, bathroom or kitchen vanity, cabinets, tiles, stone benchtop, windows, doors, gutters, or bricks – why not
get a free quote on a

FIX ‘N’ CHIPS repair first. It will be done much quicker than replacing, so you can focus on more important things. We can quote based on photos, so you don’t have to wait for an inspection or pay the costly call-out fee just for a quote.

Plus, by keeping what you have in place not only do you not have to deal with the numerous trades, but you are also having a positive impact on the environment by reducing waste that ends up in landfill.

Try repair first, before you replace.
